Several months ago, the Church of St. Cuthbert received funds from the Sheriff of Aegis pass, a life time of savings to have Aegis Pass reopened and it’s Defensive Abbey Rebuilt. This pleased the Queen of Veluna and Her Allies in Ulek. The Queen planned to send the Lord Protector there to induct the Sheriff into her own Order of the Garter as a Landed Knight. Plans were drawn up for a three year schedule to culminate in the Sheriffs Knighting, the first ceremony to be held in the new Abbey and performed by none other than the Queen herself.
Shortly after a survey team of masons arrived to survey the site and make final plans for the construction a workwoman disappeared from the survey team’s campsite. The Sheriff went out with his wife to see if they could locate her. A routine patrol turned out to be the Sheriff’s end. He and his wife vanished. Shortly thereafter his remains were discovered. Rumors that a monster had moved into the hills or the east lake began circulating. Reports of other travelers bound for Aegis Pass disappearing began to trickle in to the town.
Then, the howling at night began. It seemed to come from the west. The engineers moved from the construction site to the public house in town. Then a brave knight from the church of St Cuthbert arrived. He had come to oversee the construction and prepare the inner sanctum for the new Prior. Instead he reestablished the camp at the construction site. He investigated the Sheriffs disappearance, and the masons and engineers returned to the camp. Another dead girl was found. The Necromancer and his family have gone missing.
A secretive agent of the Lord Protector had arrived as well.
